ACI (http://anticheatinc.com) is pleased to announce a new Block VPN Players Enforcement Option for LiveSecure.

With increasing attention being paid to personal privacy on the Internet, VPN use among gamers has been growing. Although there is nothing inherently wrong with using a well-performing VPN to game with, unfortunately VPNs are also being used to the detriment of the gaming community:

More cheaters are using VPNs so their multiple cheating accounts cannot be tracked or linked through IP addresses. With a free game such as AA, we have some serial cheaters who create multiple accounts per day and use different VPN nodes to hide their identities and avoid having their accounts linked.

Some players are using VPNs to avoid server policies regarding player pings. Players who would normally have a high ping because of their distance from a game server are now using a VPN and choosing an exit node close to the server, which often results in lower pings than non-VPN using players. Unfortunately, using a VPN does not change the laws of physics. Regardless of what ping is showing at the server, if you are connected from a marginal or distant network your lag will be the same or worse than when you are not connected through a VPN. Players using a VPN to avoid ping limits can cause a huge headache for server admins who are trying to diagnose why players are lagging.

The Block VPN Players Enforcement Option puts control back into the hands of the server admin. You can enable the option to block players using a VPN, and continue to let clan members or known players who are using a VPN join your servers by adding them to your LiveSecure Local Whitelist.


DFekt has been using this since implementation and has worked really well and we will continue to use this as a way to deter cheaters from our server(s). Kudos once again to ACI for this implementation.
