News from the gaming industry

Guerrilla’s next Killzone project is still a long way off, according to a new report, but the series does appear to have a place in the studio’s long-term roadmap. The game is said to be in very early production, with several developers already assigned in some capacity while the team’s main attention remains on its current Horizon multiplayer effort.

That Horizon project has reportedly become the immediate priority after a closed beta drew a negative response. The resulting changes appear to have pushed the Killzone work further down the schedule, with its progress now depending on how quickly Guerrilla can steady the multiplayer game and move more staff onto the next title.

The report also suggests Guerrilla may be working with an outside studio on the project, though that partnership has not been confirmed. People Can Fly is being discussed as a possible collaborator, but that connection remains speculative. Current talk points more toward a remake or remaster of an earlier Killzone entry than a brand-new sequel, though no specific game has been announced.

No release window or platform plans have been revealed. For players hoping to see Killzone return, the key takeaway is that the franchise is not being shelved, but it is still deep in the planning stage rather than close to launch.
