Black Lives Matter Gamers

Black Lives Matter (BLM) is both a slogan and an international social and political movement focused on addressing racism, racial inequality, and violence against Black people — especially police brutality and systemic injustices.
Origins
It began in 2013 when three Black organizers — Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors (later Patrisse Khan-Cullors), and Opal Tometi — created the hashtag #BlackLivesMatter after George Zimmerman was acquitted in the killing of unarmed Black teenager Trayvon Martin. The movement gained massive visibility in 2014 after the police killings of Michael Brown (Ferguson) and Eric Garner (New York), sparking nationwide protests, and exploded globally again in 2020 after George Floyd's murder.
Core Message & Goals (from the official BLM site and historical descriptions)
At its heart, "Black Lives Matter" asserts that Black lives are systematically devalued in society — particularly by law enforcement, the justice system, and other institutions — and demands that Black people be treated with equal humanity, dignity, and value as anyone else.
The official Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation (as of 2026) describes its work this way:

Vision — A world where Black people across the diaspora thrive, experience joy, and are not defined by their struggles.
Mission — Working inside and outside the system to heal the past, reimagine the present, and invest in the future of Black lives through:
Policy change
Investment in Black communities
Commitment to arts and culture

Key pillars include intervening in policies to eliminate punitive systems (they remain strongly abolitionist — pushing to divest from police/prisons and reinvest in community needs like housing, education, health care, food security, clean air/water, etc.).

Broader Scope
While it started focused on police violence and the criminal legal system, BLM has expanded to address wider forms of structural racism affecting Black communities in areas like:

Economic inequality
Education
Healthcare disparities
Environmental justice
Over-policing and mass incarceration

The movement is decentralized — it includes local chapters, grassroots organizers, and many independent groups worldwide — rather than one monolithic organization.
In short: BLM is fundamentally about affirming that Black lives have inherent value and fighting to end the systemic devaluation and harm Black people face. It combines protest, policy advocacy, community investment, and cultural work toward that end.
