Clicking Big Picture mode crashes Steam

I'm just trying to get Big Picture to run on my PC, not even connected to a TV. Whenever I click VIEW and go to BPM, it just crashes Steam. It doesn't even generate an error message. I've had task manager open and the Steam process disappears a couple seconds after clicking BPM. Any help? I can provide system specs if needed.

Just did a fresh install of Windows 10, fully updated.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970, newest drivers.
Fresh install of Steam.
USB devices connected: Keyboard, mouse, audio interface.

Steam works fine. Games work fine.

Big picture mode freezes and eventually crashes. I can get one click in, if I'm fast, before the freeze.

I wouldn't actually care if you ding dongs didn't FORCE the user into BPM to have ANY controller configuration options. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do.

And yeah, I've tried every "fix" posted (by the community, of course, not that Valve would take the time to address anything) and nothing works.

The insane thing is, BPM works just fine in bloody Linux. But for some reason, Windows 10 makes it die, and has been since its release. Just real cringe stuff from you guys

i found what was making my BPM freeze and crash: audio interface drivers needed to be updated. I have a Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 1st Gen interface. when it wasn't plugged in, BPM didn't crash. I updated the drivers with the most recent found online and BPM now works again. I hope this helps someone else with the same problem.
