Anyone know if there is a 3rd party or standalone netflix app for steam big picture? steam bigpicture is really close to replacing my Xbox360 for my main media device..

There is currently not an app. The big picture browser doesn't reliable work in netflix for whatever reason either.

Ok i figured this out.

First - Download and install Netflix for Media Center From Here

http://download.microsoft.com/download/D/D/8/DD8BD495-9A5A-46DB-B95E-A846AF35915E/NetflixInWindowsMediaCenter.exe

Start up WIndows Media Center and run the netflix shortcut - it will install and update.

next close WIndows Media Center.

now add a Non Steam game to steam and navigate to

c:\Windows\Ehome\ and select Eshell.exe
and make the shortcut look like this

"C:\Windows\ehome\ehshell.exe" /directmedia:general -launchcoded:{e6f46126-f8a9-4a97-9159-b70b07890112}\{982ea9d3-915c-4713-a3c8-99a4688b7c59}

This will launch WIndows Meda Center in Full Screen straight to the Netflix App..

here is a custom tile image for you to use

http://www.fifthelement.net/bigpicture/Netflix.png

a page that has bunch of hte windows media center shortcuts can be found here

http://community.mediabrowser.tv/permalinks/1747/how-to-create-a-shortcut-to-launch-directly-into-media-browser

you are on your own on how you navigate netflix, personally i have Xpadder setup with a netflix profile that autodetects the Eshell.exe

I also added links straight to the Movies and TV for Media Center

An alternative to H-street's method if you use Chrome:

First, we create a shortcut to launch Netflix in fullscreen Chrome:
Install the Netflix Chrome app: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/netflix/deceagebecbceejblnlcjooeohmmeldh
In Chrome, open the new tab page and click Apps (top left corner).
Right click on Netflix and set "Open Full Screen".

Grab an icon:
You search for an appropriate icon with this search: https://www.google.ca/search?q=netflix&tbs=isz:ex,iszw:460,iszh:215&tbm=isch
That query sets the right size for Steam Big Picture. H-street's icon is the top result. (Thanks H-street!)

Next, we add that shortcut to Steam:
Add Google Chrome as a non-steam game.
Right click on the Chrome "game" and select Properties.
Change the name from chrome to Netflix.
Add this to the end of Target:
--profile-directory=Default --app-id=deceagebecbceejblnlcjooeohmmeldh
This tells Chrome to use the Netflix app. (I discovered these arguments by clicking Create Shortcuts in the Chrome Apps view where we set "Open Full Screen".)
Click Choose Icon and select the icon image you downloaded earlier.
Click Close.

You need to manually set the image again for Grid View.
Right click on the image and select Set Custom Image and select your icon again. (As described here: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showpost.php?p=34017221&postcount=17 )

I use JoyToKey to control Netflix with my xbox controller:
Create a "Blank" profile with no mappings (the default).
Create a "Mouse" profile and map LS to mouse, X to click, Back to Backspace (to go back), and Y to space (for pause).
Set it to automatically use that "Mouse" profile when chrome is running and set "Specify a default profile" to Blank. I find I also have to select Blank in the profile list (or else the controller moves the mouse cursor and the selection in Big Picture).

To make JoyToKey run at startup, create a shortcut to it in the %AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup folder (you cannot browse to this hidden folder so hit Win+r, paste, and hit Enter).

If Chrome opens a blank window in front of Netflix, you can launch chrome at startup (copy its shortcut from C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Google Chrome to the %AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup folder). This ensures that there's a Chrome window already open and your new Netflix window will be on top.

Update 2014-06-28: The last step appears to be optional. I'm not certain if it depends on your version of Chrome or some other settings. I also disabled Chrome from running in the background.

If anyone wishes to use youtube simply create the same chrome shortcut as netflix but change "http://www.netflix.com/" with "http://www.youtube.com/tv" this is the exact app that ps3 uses for youtube and works great with a controller mapped with...

arrow keys to the dpad and left analog
A = enter
B = escape
Y = G (guide)
X = S (search)
and i like to put the right analog to control my pcs volume

It looks awsome

Hey anyone know a way to use bluestacks or a better android emulator for netflix, hulu, youtube n other media straight from a shortcut? i was thinking this could be a good alternative due to the fact almost all androids os has support for a d-pad n enter
gambiller Mar 24, 2015 @ 1:57pm
Netflix seems not to work through bluestacks anyone get it working?

Considering they now offer MK Legacy on the store as a stream-only, I think video might be on the horizon.

Little update. Because I think this whole thing is much easier now.

I launch the windows 8.1 Netflix app. I used this method:
https://steamcommunity.com/groups/steamuniverse/discussions/1/611696927924132613/

I made a Netflix white background (new netflix style) icon:
http://imgur.com/iAcEG4U

In order to browse Netflix, Spotify or Whatever I use the very cool Controller Companion:
http://store.steampowered.com/app/367670/

PS: It also works fine on any youtube app you prefer, I made an icon, here: http://imgur.com/uA4kiyY

First off all i only see Open in Window ? and when i open the "game" from big picture mode or just steam it just opens chrome but doesent go into the netflix page
Ludus Aurea Dec 20, 2015 @ 2:39pm
I advise just upgrading to Win 8 or 10. 8 more likely. It makes this 100x easier because all you have to do is just find the appid of the fullsreen Chrome application, add a fake shortcut via text file as a game to your library, then you can rename it to Netflix and adjust the startin parameter to the appid of the Netflix app. And then even add a 460x215 netflix custom icon to it.

Do you have the shortcut set to open chrome to the netflix site?
