Can't launch Big Picture mode?

So, I'm trying to play a non Steam game. Problem is when I launch Steam either two things happen: either NONE of my non Steam games show up in my library but I can launch Big Picture mode just fine, or my non Steam games do show up but Big Picture launches not signed in with literally nothing to click. There's a sign in button but it just makes the Steam logo appear for an infinite amount of time. Please help?
