"Xbox button" in windows 10

its not working...like at all...

usually in windows desktop pressing the Xbox button would launch steam in big picture, but is not doing anything...

and in big picture would open the quick menu, but is not working...

and in game would bring the overlay... and it is not working... did windows 10 broke the support for the xbox 360 controller for steam?

Uninstall the Xbox "app".

You cannot uninstall by any traditional means. You can remove using command line or specialized programs, but it is easier to simply disable the Game DVR.

In the meantime, you can get around the issue within the Windows 10 Xbox app. In the settings of the app is a Game DVR tab. Click the tab and you'll be able to disable the function. Toggle "Record game clips and screenshots using Game DVR" to off and you're good to go!

I had this exact same issue after upgrading to Windows 10 build 10586. Like many people I tried the usual, disabling game DVR, but it didn't resolve my issue.

What resolved the issue for me was going into Device Manager and under Xbox 360 Peripherals I right clicked Xbox 360 Controller for Windows -> Properties -> Driver -> Update Driver -> Browse my computer for driver software -> Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.

The latest driver I had was 10.0.10586.0 instead of picking that one I selected Version 2.1.0.1349. Restarted my PC and the issue is now resolved.

Hopefully this works for you guys too.

You are awesome. I've tried everything else trying to get the xbox 360 controller to work with steam and nada. This solved ALL issues including opening big picture with the xbox button, THANK YOU!!!!

UPDATE YOUR DRIVERS & CONTROLLER FIRMWARE

No, really - outdated drivers and/or Controller inside firmware caused me this problem more than once.

To update drivers

On win10:
WindowsKey+X>Device Manager>Xbox Peripherals>Xbox Controller (or similar, if different then you REALLY SHOULD update)>RMB>Update Driver>Automatically.

Updating controller firmware

1) (PREFERABLY) use an Xbox One tied to your microsoft account
2) (Win10) Download app "Xbox Accessories" from Windows Store. From there, update controller firmware.

This should be fixed, but it will introduce ANOTHER BUG, which is, the guide button will stop working in steam overlays.

Fixing Guide button on XBO controller:

1. Turn ON (sic!) Game DVR in Xbox app
2. Open a game (preferably windowed one)
3. Use Win+G to invoke Xbox Game Bar
4. Settings> Turn off launching Game Bar with Guide button
5. Turn off Game DVR in Xbox App
6. BE HAPPY THAT GUIDE BUTTON AND YOUR PAD IS WORKING

Didn't expect a video with Vitas would help me fix it.

Turns out you don't just need to disable Game DVR, but also as said, turn off the option to invoke the Game Bar in the Game Bar itself.
