"Xbox button" in windows 10
its not working...like at all...

usually in windows desktop pressing the Xbox button would launch steam in big picture, but is not doing anything...

and in big picture would open the quick menu, but is not working...

and in game would bring the overlay... and it is not working... did windows 10 broke the support for the xbox 360 controller for steam?

This may be related to Windows 10's built-in feature called "Game Bar", which is essentially another overlay.

It may be conflicting with Steam's big picture overlay as both listen for the Xbox Button input. But this is pure speculation.

I'm able to run games just fine in big picture, but sad that I can't pull up steam overlay.

In the meantime, you can get around the issue within the Windows 10 Xbox app. In the settings of the app is a Game DVR tab. Click the tab and you'll be able to disable the function. Toggle "Record game clips and screenshots using Game DVR" to off and you're good to go!

You cannot uninstall by any traditional means. You can remove using command line or specialized programs, but it is easier to simply disable the Game DVR.
Command line info was easy to find online.

I uninstalled the Xbox app using the powershell command "Get-AppxPackage *xbox* | Remove-AppxPackage" but the Xbox button still does not start the Steam menu.

This is on a fresh install of the 1511 Windows 10 build

Try restarting? Is it really uninstalled? Do you have steam overlay enabled?

I did the following
Disable DVR in Xbox app then restart
Uninstall Xbox app for my user account then restart
Reinstall Xbox app and disable DVR then restart
Uninstall Xbox app for all users then restart
Install Xbox 360 controller Windows 7 drivers then restart
Uninstall Xbox 360 controller Windows 7 drivers then restart

after every restart I tried the Steam Community/Xbox button in a game, but it did nothing.

I've tried nearly everything now with no success
The drivers for 360 controller aren't good. You don't need them. (XBO controllers are different.) What happens when you press center button? Holding it down?

Actually you don't need to uninstall it to remove the functionality and you can still keep the Xbox app if you prefer. Open a game and hit the Windows+G to open the game bar, there's a setting in it's settings about using the guide button to call it or something, just get rid of that and if you ever want the game bar you can just do Windows+G again to open it, or change that setting back should you need it for something
