Guide on how to get the old big picture back, after a whole year

Incase if you don't like the new one after it got removed, there 𝙞𝙨 a way to get it back, but it's not recommended as you will be on an out of date steam build that has older chromium, which breaks A LOT of things (for example, friends and chat). You also cannot play on newer games that use (I THINK, THIS ISN'T A CONFIRMATION) more modern steamworks and VAC secured servers.
Also, I don't think you can install apps with a newer appid that was released after the build that we'll install in this guide

Open a CMD window and type in

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam" -forcesteamupdate -forcepackagedownload -overridepackageurl http://web.archive.org/web/20230531113527if_/media.steampowered.com/client -exitsteam

This should "update" steam and exit immediately. The update is the client downloading the old build, from may 31st 2023 (the last update shipped before the -oldbigpicture flag was removed)


Now, open a notepad window and type in

BootStrapperInhibitAll=enable

and save it as "steam.cfg" in your "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam" folder.
This blocks updates, so that valve can't update your build of steam and remove this functionality.
IF YOU WANT TO UPDATE TO A NEWER BUILD, REMOVE THE FILE WE JUST MADE!

Make a new steam shortcut, or use the current one on your desktop, and add under target after the quotation marks,

-vgui -oldbigpicture

If you don't launch steam with this shortcut, it'll take you to the Steam Deck UI big picture (the bad and gross one).

Open up that shortcut and click on the big picture icon, and boom. You have the old big picture.

IF YOU PLAN ON USING THE BROWSER, NEWER SITES WILL BE BROKEN.
You can use a site called farside[farside.link] to find alternative frontends to sites that you would usually access. If sites look broken, try to find a dark mode switch. The CEF inside of old big picture will try and turn anything light mode into dark mode using CSS, which makes sites look like ♥♥♥♥.

Well, that's it. Go do whatever you would do with the old big picture.
