Controller is still responding in a game after disabling input AND turning off controller
So i have a controller with a wireless dongle and i've turned off steam input for certain games and even all of them inside big picture mode but when it's plugged in and the controller is turned off if i boot up any game it thinks the controller is turned on and can only be controlled by the controller as when i turn it on i can suddenly control the game with this controller but when this is happening my entire PC and Mouse is disabled and the only way to fix it is to take out the entire controller dongle which overtime is going to damage and wear it down, any idea on how to fix this?

disabling steam input for the game, just stops steam from being able to remap it

run joy.cpl to see if it shows up still when its off

I've done that with steam input but it didn't do anything sadly and when i ran joy.cpl it's saying the controller name and then the status next to it says OK so i guess it's still being detected even when turned off?

Yeah that's not a Steam thing that's something with Windows or the controller, it seems to still be connected and ready or so the machine thinks it would appear.

Is there anyway to disable it without ripping out the dongle?

unplug the controller

if using the ms dongle, it will not show paired controllers when they are off
aftermarket dongles always have weird issues

That's the issue though, i don't want to keep crawling behind my PC to unplug the controller everytime i'm not using it as that's going to damage the dongle and it's an effort to even fit back there

get a usb extension cable
there are good cheap ones, or you can use one of the front usb ports on the pc

wired xbox 360 controllers have a breakaway connector

or just use a cheap 1ft extension cable (or 2-3ft if you need to go around the pc), and unplug that
