Xbox Controller Lag When Big Picture is Active
So I just noticed an odd issue where, only when Big Picture is on, my Xbox controller apparently has a random interval of input lag and/or stuck controls.

For instance at a random point while using Big Picture or playing a game launched from Big Picture, if I press something like down on the d-pad, Big Picture or the game in question acts as if I’m holding the down button on the d-pad and endlessly scrolls down until it randomly stops (could be 2 seconds, could be 20).

This is not the case when playing games outside of big picture mode and launching them normally from steam. No input lag or endless button pressing whatsoever.

I thought it could be interference from my wireless controller receiver but even when my controller was plugged in, the issues still occurred at about the same level. When playing without big picture and my controller is still wireless, I never experience this issue.

Anyone know what could be up?

I think this has been happening to everybody, and as far as I know; there's no way to fix it right now. I doubt the BPM team will ever put out a fix.
Damn... I remember at least at the beginning of this year I hadn't ever experienced this issue. Only noticed this yesterday. Do you know if it's appearing with PS4 and Steam Controller sets as well?

It's an issue with SC too, not sure about DS4 since I haven't tried it. This probably won't help you, but it appears that spamming keyboard inputs gets rid of the lag.
Ahh, weird fix lol. Thanks for the heads up though!

No problem

Yeah this issue is a real pain. Also being discussed here https://steamcommunity.com/groups/bigpicture/discussions/1/1698294337770014624

Seems to me that spamming inputs doesn't work reliably either as the lag will instantly appear for me when having gone back from an applications menu (i.e. having selected a game and gone the the menu where Your Game, Manage Game and Community Content etc. is shown ), back to the game list. Happens every time. Can someone else replicate this?

I'll see what I can do. I'm really disappointed that the Steam team or whoever develops BPM barely does anything. I have a suspicion that what is the BPM team (if it exists) is just a skeleton crew.

Judging on what I know about Valve’s company culture, the people working on BPM probably just got bored or were needed for some other project. In all honesty though, I wouldn’t be surprised if they were even pulled off the project because Steam Machines never really made an impact. And considering BPM was the method valve pushed to use steam on both steam machines and Steam Link, it would make sense to drop regular support for it.

Wouldn’t be surprised if they cut the feature altogether within the next 2-3 years.

Agreed. BPM has been out since 2012, and nearly everywhere you look something is broken. Such a middle finger to a part of the community, whether original pc players who want a tv experience to console players who migrated to steam to use this feature.

What about the following links:

https://wccftech.com/steam-client-new-big-picture-interface/

https://www.vg247.com/2018/01/26/steam-big-picture-mode-is-getting-a-new-interface-report/

https://www.pcgamesn.com/steam-big-picture-mode-new-interface

Is that still relevent and up to date?

P.S. I really do not experience any input lag with my xbox controllers after i turned off vsync in al games. The new Nvidia function VSYNC fast does also the trick, almost no screen tearing because of the 60fps restriction on a HDMI connection (in my case).

Have you also tried using the default template for your xbox controller?

I use the latest beta.

All those links cite the same tweet. I'd believe it if they had actually made any significant periodic updates this year. Also I think that's the latest public/major announcement regarding BP. I could be wrong though.

Also to clarify, I only experience the lag when BP is on. Playing games normally doesn't give me any lag whatsoever. In the BP menu and in games launched through BP, I experience said lag. Definitely not tied to nvidia settings.

Sorry I have tried to reproduce it, but i can't. The only way to experience lag is when i turn on vsync in games, but you also experience it in BP. With vsync on I receive massive lag with my controllers, xbox 360 and one. I don't know why, but its that way for years. P.S. I use Windows 10 1803.

Is Vsync automatically enabled for BP? If so, how do I disable?
