Skyrim SE won’t launch from Big Picture mode but works fine on standard mode

Skyrim Special Edition wont launch from Big Picture mode. Works fine on standard mode. All other games work fine and show the “LAUNCHING” dialogue. I have tried the trick where you rename he Skyrim launcher to bypass the graphics config screen. That works great for standard Steam, still have the launching failure for Big Picture mode.

I have the very same problem with Oblivion, though my normal copy of Skyrim launches from BigPicture without any problem. Weird.
