The SDK exists, let's fix tribes.

Somebody made an unofficial SDK for tribes ascend, this lets us fix everything about it that we don't like.

First of all, sorry about the silence for so long. Everybody's schedules have been a little bit crazy and as a result progress on the mod has been somewhere between nonexistant and slow. There really isn't much to update about since the last update about the weapons, other than blocking weapons ending up being a much more difficult thing to do than we had thought.

To speed things up, Yukimono has set up the mod on GitHub and created a forum topic with the link to it and some info. That'll be open so anybody who wants to mess with the SDK can contribute, as well as serve as a place to keep all the information we've found out about messing with the game. There's also an IRC channel for development chat so drop on by @Rizon/#betascend for that!

Sorry again about the slow progress and overall silence, hopefully this will really get things going!

Modifying Weapons.

For anyone curious, and anybody wanting to mess around with the weapons in Tribes. Here's how to do it.

The first thing I'd suggest to do is to create a new function in the mod script to handle weapon modifications. Call it in ModInit() BEFORE any AddHook calls. Then you can mess with the settings of imported weapns through the DefaultProperties field on each of them.

Example: TrDevice_Thumper.DefaultProperties.m_fReloadTime = 10.0f;

That sets the reload time to be 10 seconds, which you can see the results of here.

You can find all the weapon values to modify in the developer version of the game, in the folder Development/Src/TribesGame/Classes. Weapons/grenades are TrDevice_WeaponName.uc and can be opened with notepad or notepad++. Projectiles are TrProj_ProjectileName.uc, most of the damage values are in the projectile files, where things like reload time and ammo count are stored in the weapon files.

Some of the properties have multiple instances with a number in parentheses after them. You call those by having the number in square brackets instead of parentheses in the mod script.

Example:
TrDevice_ChainGun.DefaultProperties.WeaponProjectiles[ 0 ]=TrProj_Spinfusor.StaticClass();

This sets it so that the chain gun fires spinfusor disks, which is as fun as you would expect.

Do note, for each weapon you want to mess with it has to be imported at the top of the mod file. So far we've just been messing with the test mod provided by Altimor, which has all the code for equipping weapons already in place.

Hopefully that was clear enough for everybody to be able to now go and mess around with the weapons. As we figure out more stuff I'll post announcements with how to do it.
