I've seen a bunch of people who scam and i know a bunch of types of scammers from experience heres a few :

Raffle scammers: People claim that they are having a raffle. You try to add them to make sure you don't gets scammed. They either accept and let you forget about the raffle OR they decline the request and tell you their friends list is "Full". I can tell you , friends lists can not be full.

"Copy" scammers: These people claim they can "copy" or "duplicate" items. This is NOT possible.

Quickswitch scammers: These people chat very often in trades. They try to switch items with items that are worth less and chat to make you not notice the messege that says the item was removed.

"Rare" Scammers: These people say their items are "Rare" but the item is really common. Avoid these scammers, as they are sometimes convincing.

"Double Trouble" scammers: These people claim they have an item you want , but it is reserved for another person. They may ask you to "Trick" the other person by giving your items to him. Weird, but somewhat convincing.

Gift wrap scammers: These people scam people for their giftwrap. They have an untradeable item and asks you for your giftwrap and you payment. They may run away with the giftwrap.

Highjacks: These are people or websites that ask you for your email, profile name, and password. They may claim that you may get items if you do so, or they can claim that they can idle for you.

Ways to spot scammers: Check the steamrep of the person. Also check if the person's inventory or profile is private. Check for any special reputation on their profile. Check if the reputation is fake.

If you have been scammed: Report the Fool to Steamrep! Pressurize the scammer: Follow them to servers or ask your friends to pressurize the person by adding him and pressurizing them!

Other things:

Trolling: These people like to troll a lot. Like they're giving free stuff. Well some people say that and they really do give their stuff. They're nice :)
