First Topic: 1985 and the possibility of WW3

I let someone else start this off, but here is the premise of this debate or discussion(whatever it turns out to be) If the NATO and the Warsaw Pact went to war around 1985 what od you think would happen? This is assuming a conventional war and that the main fighting takes place in Central Germany at least initially.

Arsenal of Democracy Tournament All Day

Starting on the 14th I will be hosting the first biquarterly-semi-annual Arsenal of Democracy Tournament. Year will be 1936 and the scenario is up for a vote. We will start a 1900 Saturday morning and play non-stop until the game ends (or until i go skydiving on the 15th) to sign up, dont be cheap and get a copy of aod off gamers gate and post the nation and scenario you want to play as. This is to be played completely realistically(no goofy politics)

I will be playing as the United States of America or the USNA

Interesting, I was not aware of the problems with car bombs, the lack of manuever air support, although hating on the Stryker is almost tacky with its unoriginality.

First and foremost it talks about how mechnized units are 100% leeter and why the Army made it into Baghdad while the mostly motorized Marines got pinned down.

The Basic Purpose of Surprise

The purpose of such maneuvers is to generate uncertainty in the mind of the opponent. Surprise may result from technology, but the actual surprise is not in the weapon system; it is in the mind of the commander and staff that surprise really takes place. Military commanders, not weapons systems, are surprised.

It’s probably worth repeating that: Surprise is an event that takes place in the mind of an enemy commander.

This is an excerp of a truly wonderful book written by a group of military science proffessors on the nature of technology and warfare called the Strategy of Technology. The entire book is availlable online and I would highly recomend it

AND I QUOTE: "The T-62 presents a special problem, the ammunition is so long and the turrent so small that the gun must be raised to full elevation bettween shots to reload..."

On the T-64: "The turret space was so cramped that the autoloader would occasionally latch onto a crewmember and hurl him into the breach creating new sopranos for the red army choir" (and yes that is verbatim.)
