A countdown to release of a game in the library
Its not a big deal i just think that the way playstation does it with the countdown to release right there on the game would be neat. i do know that by going to the store page it lists how long till release but it only says x amount of hours untill release or x amount of days and hours with no minutes or nothin which is fine for the store page but with a game i preordered or have advanced access to or something i think it could be fun and neat to have a little countdown to play on the play button (yes i am saying this because i am waiting for doom the dark ages to come out and so thought of this but i think it could be neat)

but yeh tldr countdown to release on the play button or like on the icon in the library home

I think maybe it is, because that something else steam would need to track, and then police so bad devs cannot use a tool like that to create urgency, and then delay their launch.

many devs are already annoyed about the quality control that valve imposes on them, so they can reduce the amount of "really bad bs" that occasionally manages to reach the store.

i think playstation can do that, because how their "ecosystem" works. could be neat, but imo, not in the library, unless it was part of the "whats new" section, which imo should be removable and allow customisation (not only which news are shown, but also if they are hidden when launching steam, plus colors for different types of news or similar); maybe the countdown in the library for preordered titles could appear in place of the whats new section for a few seconds, and then auto-hide, or call the "normal content" of that section.

maybe another option could be a special page, like the wishlist, but in which every game you are "following" is listed with their own countdown, so it would be easy to track all of them at a glance (and maybe only show "hours left" when release happens in less than a day).

and then, at the top of all that, any game you have preordered. that way it would be possible not only to know the exact date for games that enabled that feature, but for the one you already payed for.

another area that could display that info could in the lower region of the steam client (between "+ add a game" and "manage downloads" button, or between that one and "friends & chat")

Its already a feature that steam has its just on the store page and only says like "relases in 2 hours" im saying to add that on the library for games you preordered so you have them in your library already thats how playstation does it. its not something that can be used badly because
1 its already a thing just not in the library
2 this would be for games you preordered so theres no point in creating urgency with that since you already own the game and are just waiting to play
on top of this its not even a feature that is that hard to make its already there basicaly steam already knows the exact time and date of a games release most of the time (the times when those arent specified you can just not have it show up) all it takes is a simple countdown to that time
i say its not a big deal because it would just be a neat lil feature afterall if you want it you can do it yourself even now with websites or apps that give you a countdown to a certain time. its fun for people who preordered a game and are waiting to play on day 1 to be able to see the seconds tick by till they play a game they are excited about
