Blocking users should hide their forum/community posts
Currently, when one blocks a user, you can't play with them, and they can't send you messages.

But, you still see their forum and community posts.

A lot of users just go around community forums posting antagonizing and hateful content, and since Valve has a mostly "hands off" approach to moderation, it would be great to have an option to stop seeing their posts and content, like other forums, or social media, allows.

If you could expand the "block" function to cover community posts as well, it would be great.

Thanks.

It still shows their threads with the original post, but all subseqent comments in that discussion thread are hidden with a little "show" button, should you want to read it anyway. At least this is how it behaved in the Steam Beta discussions for me.

Thanks for the info. :)

You are right.
That's not how things worked, the last time I checked. I'm glad they have changed things.

Quite a few of these little things have changed over the past year without any notification about it. :ADAPTHER:

Glad I could help :)

Sorry for bumping my own thread, but to further add to my original post, the blocking option should result in threads created by blocked users to not be displayed.

Sadly, what I'm finding is that when users keep spamming and trolling others on community forums, they get blocked and reported by other users (which results in some of their posts being deleted), but they simply return and post the same things, as threads, until banned (if they ever add).

Steam users should have an option that allows them to not having to read and deal with people whose only purpose seems to be annoying others.
Some users simply go to forums for games they don't own, to cause problems and antagonize other users. And while the "block" option thankfully resolves part of the problem, it's not a complete solution.

Thanks

I was looking for this same feature, are there any updates on it ?
I just cannot stand all those trolls in the discussion forums of the games.

IMO it’s fine the way it is. The reason FaceBook does it that way is because it prevents them from seeing you too so it makes it less jilted. On here however, there needs to be context if others reply to them. Also, you’ll always have the trolls on here who are more than willing to spread rumors about their targets, so it’s vital for their targets to see what’s being said about them and report accordingly.

+1.
i think if you block someone their post should be removed from view completely, and also hide our own comments from blocked users to prevent any form of interaction.

i also think that the moderation system should change completely to end the need of handpicked moderators in forums, and allow users to moderate each other in relation to merit and efficiency, in order to prevent the influence of sjw moderators or those who lock threads to prevent negative feedback or criticism about games.

It could work like the approach used by newgrounds website, which also makes user profiles more relevant.imo its a more fair system, and requires also less staff from the website (in this case valve) to locate and disable abusive users.

didnt Valve add censoring of forum posts of blocked users like last year?

but it only hides their forum comments, not the threads they make, and ofc if theyre quoted by another user, you can still see what they write.

yeah me neither, which is why i blocked hundreds of ppl just from the forums.

i got banned from so many forums for calling the mods a bunch of SJW beta cucks lol

at least in recent years, Steam Support took more of an active role and many toxic global mods have officially "retired" from their abuse of authority

Sadly not every online game supports that feature, even newer ones.

i have never called one directly that, but i have implied it i guess. ive been lucky i have to deal only with one mod like that (that somehow seems to be involved in the dev team of the game), and prevents any form of criticism towards the game, or suggesting it may have sjw themes.

i dont know if it would be ok to mention which forums, lol.

they will be around. even if many arent toxic in that way, many will be indifferent or inadequate to offer helpful advice or make interesting the discussions. That could only happen with a meritocratic system that rewarded users with votes (imo a system like the one used by newgrounds: the more effective a user is to moderate unfair or hostile users, the more power to act as a moderator).
