Exported video is too dark with Steam Recording
I've looked through some threads here and on Reddit, and there isn't much concrete info, just some speculations.

Here's how it looks like for me: https://imgur.com/a/T80IR0F

1st screenshot is how it looks like in the actual UI when looking over the footage.
2nd screenshot is how the video looks like after exporting.
3rd screenshot are my settings.

It was the same with and without using the 265 encoder.

Some people say it's native to how Valve encodes the video and dark values. But if that was the case, I would assume everyone would be having this issue, which doesn't seem to be the case?

In case it's relevant, I have a 1070 GPU.

Same issue here on a Deck

That's a bummer. I've also uploaded a short video on YouTube just to check if it has something to do with my own video player settings. But no, it's dark also on YouTube.

I've noticed this too, i think it might be tied to the quality you export the video at? Sometimes when i export at the default quality just the thumbnail & first frame will be darker, but when i choose lower qualities (10mb or 5mb) the entire video is darker

Same thing for me too

I'm having the same issue. The video is completely fine when rewatching the background recording from steam. Exporting the clip turns it way way darker.

It happened in the past too, the problem sort of "comes and goes". I wish i knew how to fix it.

Here's another video to demonstrate the difference:

Tried it at maxed out quality (48 Mbps), still dark unfortunately.

For anyone else having this issue, you can fix your exported video file using the following ffmpeg command:

ffmpeg -i "video.mp4" -c:v libx264rgb "output.mp4"

No it doesn't. This doesn't work.
personally, i'm not having the issue anymore, but i did nothing to solve it. i guess they just updated it and fixed it.

I just tested it and yeah, seems to have fixed itself through an update. But better to keep the thread open in case someone else is having the same issue.
