"An error occurred playing this saved recording"

Whenever I try to record a video with the recording function and when I recorded it and want to watch it, then that error message pops up. I recorded videos with this function for like half a year and I have never gotten this error message before. I tried relaunching Steam, deleting all files of the steam recording function and reinstalling them back and nothing worked.

Edit: 10.30.2024 I also just now tried uninstalling the beta entirely and reinstalling back but that didn't work too...

If anyone knows how to fix it, then please tell me! But for now I'm switching back to OBS.

I've had this error recently as well. Everything was running fine for ages and then suddenly Steam broke something. Doesn't matter what format I record in, where the files are, or even if it's manual recording or background, everything errors out. The files can be watched fine if exported as mp4s, but it was nice being able to edit and clip within the Steam client instead of doing it externally.

I get the same issue but luckily you can hover your mouse over the timeline and it will show you a preview. You can then clip the video and export as an mp4 and it will be fine. at the moment playback in the steam client is just ♥♥♥♥♥♥ i guess

Same as described in a posts above - when trying to view the saved recording through Recording & Screenshots window, "An error occurred playing this saved recording" occurs.
Worth noting that I store the Steam recordings on a remote NAS mounted as an Samba share.
