Record in Background per game instead of ALL games
How do I set it so only games I set record in background? I don't have the hard drive space to have so many games recording when I don't want to. The easy solution is to set recording off for the games I know I wont want to record, but it gets to the point where why not just have an off as the default and opt in to record in background for the game?

Unless I'm misunderstanding something? Steam setting's Game Recording and right clicking on the game's properties Recording seem to be separated, as if I have it off in steam's settings I can't record at all no matter what setting I have turned on on a game

You should be able do that, it's just confusing. What you want to do is turn background recording on, set the "All Games" setting to zero minutes, and then right below that use "Add game-specific settings here" to set your specific games to have longer recording lengths so they actually record.

I've no idea if setting recording length to zero properly disables the game recording mechanisms outright, or if it still does all the recording work but just eats the recording as it makes it.

Setting the recording length to zero defaults it to 5 minutes, it wont let me put anything lower than that

Well, that'll need to be fixed then. A shame they saw zero as a possibility and deliberately handled that use case in the wrong way. The right answer should have been obvious :(

Personally, I think what we really need is a "total recoding" limit that keeps every individual game from storing background recordings forever as we switch between various games. I don't think they considered people playing more than one game at a time, because you'd obviously not want background recordings getting saved individually for everything.

Seconded, its a hassle to have to turn it off for every chill/rpg game when u only want it for competitive shooters
