videos permanently saved
I think I'm confused about how all this works. I thought that steam was now automatically recording the video (kinda like what stadia used to do) and I'd be asked at some point if I wanted to save the video or not. In the options it clearly says that steam records a temporary video file. But instead all videos gets saved and I have to manually delete them or they'll use a lot of disk space.

I can't see anywhere this menu https://ibb.co/b6XTNXk that's supposed to ask me to save the video...

Am I getting this wrong? Can anybody explain how it works?

anybody? Is it just me not getting the chance to save or delete the video recorded in background?

In the background, the recording will be automatically recorded and saved, so you can only delete it manually
If you do not want to delete everything manually, but you urgently need to free up disk space, then in the folder where the videos are recorded, delete everything in the "video" "timelines" folders, BUT windows with recordings will remain on steam, although they cannot be played.

In short: To completely delete records, everything needs to be done manually in steam. I hope it helped in some way:DSTtophat:

yes that's what I'm doing, but in the options, when enabling the background recording, it clearly says it's a temporary file. It should ask me if I wanna save it or not instead of using up all that disk space. Check the screenshot in my first comment, please, I never see that menu.

I have no idea how temporary the file is or if it is temporary at all. It seems to me that they will last for a long time, if not always. I can advise you to use the save the last *** seconds function in the video. This way you can save only important moments, and then trim them (I recommend setting 1-5 minutes). I think it's better than a permanent save due to the background mode

I'm sorry, but I didn't notice that the function of saving the last *** seconds is only available in the background. All that remains is to use the background mode, or turn on the recording manually

I believe this feature should not potentially use up all our disk space by automatically saving a video file of xx gigabytes after every game session. I know we can manually delete them but it feels kinda invasive. The best thing would be having a pop up window after closing the game session, asking us if we want to save or delete the video file... just like my screenshot of the steam page seems to hint, but it looks like that doesn't happen to anyone not just me.

I cannot believe that this is not an option??? I really hope they add this, because this shadow play is leagues better than windows, so I want to use it.

I agree, would love a time limit on the main recording file, so the bulk recordings auto-delete after a week or month or similar
