Why is the default recording codec for clips is H264 even if I have H265 enabled?
When you export a clip, its default is H264, but it can optionally be encoded to H265. That's a complete waste of space when you can just record it in HEVC in the first place which has better efficiency. Please, Valve, do not allow H264 to be the default when every graphics card has had hardware En/Decoders of HEVC for almost a decade. It's a waste of time to encode and export a clip and has worse quality and inefficient file sizes

It couldve been a temporary default choice meant for maximizing the target reach of the audience to cover potato machines before going for improved implementation.

Recording HDR would require h265 or better yet AV1 if your gpu handles realtime capture fine.

I mean they could literally just offer HEVC recording as a option for advanced users, and allow H264 as the default if they're worrying about compability,
