Playback doesn't work (Linux)
Recording seems to be working fine on Counter-Strike 2 - I have it set to record in the background at highest quality, up to a maximum of 60 minutes of gameplay.

However, when I open the Recordings and Screenshots page to play back recordings, or try to save a clip in the Overlay - anything that requires playback of recorded content - the screen stays grey with a blue loading symbol forever. Last night, I left it loading for a couple hours, but when I came back to it nothing had changed.

Today, I upgraded my graphics driver from 550.90.07 to 555.58 and rebooted to see if that would fix it, but it hasn't. However, I can now see thumbnails of the recording when I hover over different points in the timeline.

Any thoughts would be appreciated :)

System:
NVIDIA RTX 4060 Ti / driver 555.58
Arch Linux / KDE Plasma on Xorg
Running the Steam Families Beta
Steam installed from Arch Linux repos

Try using the flatpak version of steam.

Works fine on the flatpak version (RTX 2080)

I have the same issue as the original poster. Recording works but not playback. The thumbnails and export work, so I can use it to find the clip I want and export it, but it's a subpar experience.

System:
GPU: Radeon 7900 XTX / mesa 24.2.2-1
Arch Linux / KDE Plasma on Wayland
Steam installed from the Arch repos

Oh, thanks for the reply. Glad to hear I'm not the only one - issue still hasn't been fixed, by the way. When Steam Families was released properly I was pushed out of the beta and haven't bothered going back yet - I like being able to take screenshots again :steamhappy:

Have you had that issue, too, by the way? I find that my screenshot key doesn't work, whatever it's set to, when I'm running the beta version of Steam (with recording and whatnot). Ctrl+F12 to add a marker still works, so I was using that as a substitute, but I do like having normal screenshots back.

Update: tested on a new user account on my PC (same Steam account) and had no trouble at all. I tested on GNOME Wayland and KDE Wayland.

My user account, though, still has the problem, even though this feature is now out of beta. I can't take screenshots anymore unless I disable background recording. I have this problem on KDE X11 and Wayland, so I figure it must have something to do with other applications I run or my keybind settings.

Same issue, I found a way to use the content anyways, I simply export as a video file in a folder the period from-to and save it locally, then I use VLC to check if the video loads and work.
I recommend to export as :
- 60 fps
- Full Quality
- Default Encoding
For 18m56s of gameplay it took like 30minutes and above to export as a 1.9G file (1930188)

Video is okay and working outside steam
Audio aswell

I still can do Screenshots and other things while steam record in background the game but sometimes the background record just crash for no real reason after many hangs from the cpu because I was using like 20 apps (r2modman, cider, and many other chromium based apps) and won't turning back on manually or mid games.

I install 2 different version of steam, using the .deb file and using the steam-devices files (another .deb files but from Debian 11)

I doesn't try on flatpak version since Flatpak doesn't really work on my side (by my fault, because Flatpak refuses to install some kind of NVIDIA packages)

Here is my system info if you need them :
OS: Debian GNU/Linux trixie/sid x86_64
Kernel: 6.1.0-21-amd64
Uptime: 9 hours, 3 mins
Packages: 4843 (dpkg), 50 (flatpak), 11 (snap)

Terminal: konsole
Terminal Font: Hack 10

Yeah, exporting video has always worked for me, I should have made that clearer. Screenshots still don't work in certain games (e.g. CS2, It Takes Two) but do work in others (e.g. Papers Please, Balatro). Thanks for adding to the discussion!
