All game recordings are a black screen in game mode on the deck.

Recording does not seem to be working from game mode on the steam deck. All videos have audio but a black screen. Before someone asks no I do not have decky loader installed and never have. Screen recordings work correctly in desktop mode.

Same, seems to be an issue with game sessions, the same game will randomly have black screen one session and be recorded correctly the next session

Bumping this as I also experience black screen with audio no matter what game I try recording. None of them record properly except for audio, right now it's a game audio recorder only, no video.

Same thing here, I have a Steam Deck, and it's set to automatically record in the background, I tried turning off Hardware Encoding, adjusting the recording time to 30 mins, and the quality to medium, but nothing is working as far as I've tried.

Try rebooting and make sure that Decky Recorder plugin isn't installed, it will eventually work before breaking again lol

I'll keep trying, but I've had Decky Recorder uninstalled for at least 20 minutes, and have restarted it since, but no dice hopefully it gets more consistent in a few months Steam is usually pretty good when it comes with long term stability

Check it out: The main issue to many having the black screen during recording is due Decky Loader being installed at one point or another. If you switch to desktop mode and download Decky Loader from the official website or github and upon attempting to install choose the uninstall option. Note most say it will work with the prerelease Decky Loader option. I just uninstalled it all together and recording has been working great without issue.

Well, if that's the case that's rough, guess I'll have to wait for a Decky update past v3.0.0-pre1 because I can't do without my CSS Loader, or plugin enhancements they definitely outweigh the benefits of recording my gameplay, but thanks for a possible clue heck this could help quite a bit of folk narrow things down, say aside from Decky what plugins did everyone have installed.

NGL after writing this I have a few that I think are likely to have caused the issue I'll personally do some tests without them in hopes of solving this without loosing anything to valuable to me like CSS Loader, or the essentials like HLTB, ProtonDB, and Animation Changer

EDIT; I have added [X] next to every plugin I've uninstalled I started with ones that had some relative effect on the system, and the game, and also deleted a lot of redundant/broken plugins, no luck I even disabled my CSS enhancements using a profile it didn't work... If this is Decky either it's a plugin I haven't uninstalled, or it's a framework issue, which I guess I'll figure out sooner, or latter

I’ve never had decky installed and get mostly black screens with audio. I did have Cryoutilitues setup but have turned everything back to default (thinking maybe it was the problem), but that didn’t help.

Same on some games/sessions. Interesting observation: my recording of Risk of Rain 2 was black until I decided to test if it would record another game (100% Orange Juice). It didn't switch over and only recorded RoR2 but from that point on the recording worked. I got full video and it stayed that way.

No Decky, no other mods, just reimaged the deck today

Weird, I just tried that by first launching Dangonronpa 2 Goodbye Despair, and then launching 100% Orange Juice while the second game never launched, it did push me back into the first where I could play.

Unfortunately, it didn't work for me, and the recording was still all black, but then again I have Decky installed, and it could also be game and settings dependent, heck the proton version could even be important for all I know too.
