Wayland Support?
I've been kinda struggling to get it working on my system (AMD CPU & GPU, Arch Linux, KDE Plasma 6.1, Wayland), I'm curious if the presence of Wayland is screwing with troubleshooting.

Valve, please fix!

It's working on my Wayland system (AMD CPU & GPU, Fedora 40 Workstation, GNOME 46)

Check that you have VAAPI installed (https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Hardware_video_acceleration), and the game doesnt have some sort of splash screen (can cause recording to fail)
