Quick clip hotkey in addition to background recording

The current implementation of 2hrs background recording + markers hotkey is great for long-ish game sessions since I don't have to worry about missing moments and the markers still allow me to know where to look and create clips afterwards.

However, there are times when all I want is to quickly clip a funny moment or something along those lines and be able to share it directly. Right now I have to open the recording, and manually create the clip, which is time consuming and couldn't be reasonably done in the middle of an online game.

I know I'm not the first one to request a quick clipping feature, but I want to stress that the current background recording + markers implementation is great for longer sessions when I have the time to make highlights from the markers after the fact. I don't want it to be gone or replaced by clipping if it is implemented, but I DO want for clipping to be added alongside the current background recording feature.

I've also seen other threads requesting for background recordings to be buffered into RAM rather than the disk. I suggest the following:

- Keep the current background recording feature as-is (longer recording stored to disk)
- Add a new "quick clipping" feature alongside (shorter recording buffered into RAM, with a hotkey to dump to disk)

Ideally, both features should be able to be toggled and configured independently of each other (just the length of each one is fine, they can share the same encoding settings to keep it simple and avoid double-encoding)

I think doing it this way will give us more choice and make most people happy

agree, being able to just hit a hotkey to save the last 15seconds-1minute would be nice. So far this feature seems like it would be a better alternative to shadowplay, but it's missing that one key feature. My biggest issue is I just want to set to record the last 30-60 seconds and just hit save when something happens. I don't want to spend 20 minutes after the fact going through the timeline and clipping everything.

yeah saving last x seconds with one button is definitely the most important feature that should be added asap

Saving the last X seconds with a hotkey would be great, along with the longer recording will make Steam a great substitute to other software.

Bumping this for visibility. I suggested this months ago and it's still not in. I think this is one of the most important features they can add.

It is essential to use a hotkey to directly save the recording of the last specified time to disk.
