AV1 Encoding Support
On newer graphics cards AV1 encoding is supported in hardware, which drastically reduces the file sizes even with high bitrate recording. It would be awesome if Steam can support that.

Until steam recording supports AV1, I will continue to use OBS. I hope steam adds the codec though. A single CS2 match can be like 5 gigs with AVC.
+1 I am all for this
I also think it might be nice to have a software encoded av1 option to save file size on exports (though at the cost of a massive encode time, but most people don't have an av1 supported card yet)

Def needed.
We should be able to:
1. Select GPU (Ie, AMD, or NVidia, or ARC) for HW Encoder
2. Select Encoder type (ie H264, HEVC or AV1)
3. also set x264 software encode speed for higher quality compression at cost of CPU
this. i'm on linux and have 2 graphics cards installed, one nvidia card and one intel arc card. recording at 1440p60 with steam recording dramatically decreases performance for in some games, notably CS2. if i could just select the arc card for encoding it'd be perfect. for now I have to just use OBS
I would +1 this but I dont think my 1080 Ti can encode AV1 :csgohelmet:

but +1 for those of you who can!
+1 I know not every GPU has the capability. But since we already have x265 people that cant use AV1 already have a good alternative.
Yes, that would be great. Please enable at least AV1 codec support for Linux (and supported GPUs). Even better would be if H265 were also possible on Linux (for GPUs that do not support AV1). But AV1 would already be great.
I have an older chipset so I wouldn't be supported but if this means in the future you can choose encoders then yeah. I'll +1 this.
