Steam Recordings: Separate recording of each audio channel
This is something I always wanted, and neither NVidia Shadowplay (At least it used to not be a thing when I last used it before they started requiring an account), nor Windows Game DVR support this.

My use case - I don't always want to record microphone/discord, but sometimes I do. Predicting this before recording in not an option, especially when using "save replay" method. I could then in video editing software include or not include the extra tracks.

This feature would make this new tool better compared to the aforementioned tools.

I currently use Steelseries.GG Moments to record my clips, this is in large because it allows a couple very limited customization audio channels. It captures channels the main "game" audio through Steelseries.GG Sonar, as well as the Mic input and "Chat" channels.

This feature is MANDATORY for my usecase, as Rubat explained for theirs I can not predict when I want my mic, my friends mics, and just the game audio before a moment happens, and for some games I want both within a short time from eachother.

For example, if I'm playing Dead By Daylight, most times I just want a clip of the game without me and my friends talking nonsense in the background, however moments later we might have an experience in-game where we make a joke about what is going on that is comedy gold and we wanna keep it. Currently this just isn't possible with this solution, but is with SteelSeries.GG where I can simply mute the non-game channels in most of my clips, and have it for the few I need it.

If Steam kept a seperate channel for each application I included when picking specific apps to include that would be amazing. However even if I could just manually include specific audio-lines that I manage with Steelseries.GG Sonar I'd be happy.

I wanted to suggest the same thing. Currently using Medal and this is the one feature that Steam is missing before it can fully replace it.

This, 100% ! I use obs to only record discord and game audio. I can exclude spotify and my browser from it

surprised they havent done it yet, honestly. i thought the "record only certain audio" would also mean that, but it doesnt.

I really expected it to work that way when I used it too.

If they make the change to record discord, game and mic etc audio on different channels i would 100% use steam instead of nvidia

With separate audio tracks I'd switch from SteelSeries.GG for sure, and with a few more small quality of life changes I'd find this to be the best recording/clipping option out there.

Absolutely essential ask this one. Not just splitting the mic channel, but any other mixers as well.

I wish the audio from my phone to Steam Deck via Bluetooth can be a separated track as well.

+1 would love this feature. I usually dont like including voice calls ect in my clips but sometimes the voice call is essential to what makes the clip good and you cant know before hand.

+1 for visibility! I use OBS for recording last 5 minutes of gameplay and I use 4 audio tracks:
1. All combined - for viewing in vlc
2. Mic
3. Chat audio (discord) (basically built-in communication device in windows)
4. System audio (game, music, etc)

Joining all audio together is a dealbreaker for me
Would've been cool if you could record multiple audio channels at all time and then choose when to enable or disable them in the different moments of the recording

+1 for split channels. This would entirely remove the need to boot up OBS to quickly record something.

Actually Shadow Play has a split audio feature to split gameplay audio and voice into seperate tracks, I love this feature as it makes it super easy to edit audio on videos, hope Steam Game Recording get's separate audio tracks for voice and gameplay aswell as I would stop needing an extra software then
