New steam UI is completely broken for me
I’m on mac and while I can see the store page, all the top buttons on blacked/whited out. I can still click them but it’s impossible to navigate since there’s no text. Has anyone else experienced something like this?

Since the upgrade, all I'm seeing is a black rectangle where the UI should be. The mouse cursor changes appropriately when I scroll over menu areas, and I can load the Store page—though without the top navigation and bottom 'downloads' bar. The same thing happens in Big Picture Mode. Once I managed (not sure how) to access Preferences via Big Picture Mode, but after a restart even that comes up as a blank window.

I've had an issue for some time with black rectangles instead of dialogue windows, like Preferences and game properties. For even longer, I've had an issue with the main part of the window (e.g. the library screen) not updating after clicks until I moused over the top navigation bar. The update has brought everything to a dark void.

I have seen old posts describing similar problems that were solved by setting a power saving mode on AMD Radeon GPUs. I'm using an old iMac with a Radeon HD 6750; I suspect the issue may relate to broken support for old graphics cards. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be anything I can do with the macOS driver; AMD only provides tools for Windows drivers. I've tried removing and reinstalling Steam as described here and using steam://flushconfig in Safari, with no results.

Exactly! I’ve reinstalled and this is exactly the problem I’m having, glad I’m not the only one

I’m on High Sierra by the way

Same; it's the highest version that can be installed on this mid-2011 machine. I wonder if the newer versions of the Steam client have Metal requirements that this GPU doesn't meet.

Check out the discussion here: https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/2/6516193260165563446/. There's a lot of people facing this issue right now, many of them on High Sierra. Page 3 of the comments has a workaround command that some have reported working for them.

I tried everything, didn’t help, thanks for trying though

The -vgui command worked for me... at least, it brought me back to the previous, less broken state. I can see my library and navigate, even if certain dialogue windows still come up black.
