Steam Families Beta: Region locking adding family members
I switched to new steam families beta, and try adding a member who lives in another country and they got error saying "Failed to accept the family invite. Your account must be in the same country as all current family members." when trying to accept the invite.

This region lock wasn't a thing in old Steam Family sharing, in my opinion this is a significant downgrade compare to what we had going before.

Edit: Please go to this as well, and bump it. This group is specifically for the new Steam Families.

you should say thanks to the whole bunch of scammy triple a publishers for this, for locked region pricing and for more.

That sucks. I live in the UK, while my son lives in the EU and suddenly I can't share my game with him anymore?! I rolled back the changes and deleted my family but it's really bad user experience.

Ye, all we can do is pray Valve changes this before Public release from Beta

Region Locking is bad, it totally kills use case for it. I will prefer old family sharing rather than this. PSN has way better family sharing options.

Yeah this is BS. Why was the old one not restricted?

Agreed. I have family that I have been sharing with for years now that I no longer can share with.

The only downside of old one was that only person at a time could use the library. Where as new one allows UpTo. 2.

Knowing this and the fact old one allowed international, old one is better. Considering your other family lives on other side of earth where the timezone is 13hrs different.

I'm quite disappointed in the region locking, my girlfriend and I are in the UK and Netherlands respectively for a number of months. I want to be able to share my games with her an visa-versa. It's very much ridiculous since there's less distance between us than myself and my parents in the North of the UK!

I really hope a workaround or something is changed to allow for this. :dip:

My partner lives in the same house as me in the UK but his account/bank account are based in Germany, so despite us sitting next to each other, we can't share. I guess we're no longer family?

This is a very bad decision. I get adding the limit of only being able to change your family for 1 year so that people can't spam the feature - but what about all of the people who have family members in other countries? This is such a loss on the buyer side.

I live against a border. My family members are across the border.
Feels like an oversight

Completely agreed, i'll just have to keep using the old system since this new country lock feature is way too limiting... Hopefully they'll remove this restriction asap

100% agree, family sharing shouldn’t be region locked at all
