Steam deck video recordings larger than 60 seconds
I'm looking for a solution to get video files larger than 60 seconds off the steam deck ideally using steams own video recording feature but there is no option to move them to an SD card or mounted SSD nor have I been able to locate the files recorded in desktop mode where I am able to transfer files to a mounted SSD

Using Decky recorder I can create files that I can find in desktop mode and transfer to a mounted SSd but more than half of these files are corrupting I suspect due to the length of the clip

has anyone got a solid solution to this please i would be very grateful

thank you for your time

😭 I have the same question, just bumping your post

I have background recordings set to record 2 hours. Then you can edit them, manually set the start and end points wherever you want, then save it in Steam. Once it is saved, you can choose to export it, which will let you save it as a mp4 file in your system. I usually just save to my pictures folder.

From there, I can move them to an SD Card, USB drive, or just upload them to Youtube like normal.

Not sure if this is what you mean, but it is how I do it.

Edit:
Just to be clear, the keyword here is "EXPORT". That is what turns the clips into standard video files.

I figured out the issue, steam doesn't support this in gaming mode but if you go into the same settings in steam in desktop mode you can grab your clips and do whatever you want with them.

Do you know how to export it/turn it into a standard video file after the fact? I just do manual recording and I'm staring at my clips on desktop mode but can't even get them to play, and I assume that if I simply shared the file it wouldn't share as a video, correct?

1.) Open the Steam Client
2.) Click "View" from the top menu
3.) In the menu that pops up click "recordings and screenshots"
4.) Click the clip you want to work with, and it opens
5.) Click "Share"
6.) From the Share menu, click "Export Video File" then just choose how/where to save it
7.) Then just wait for it to finish exporting, and that exported file should be a normal video clip

My point was that the original recording is not a regular video file, at least the background recordings (which is what I use) are not.

Always happy to help.
So I am trying these directions, and my computer says it keeps failing to export and doesn't give me a reason as to why it's doing so. It is trying to export to my pictures folder but just wont save anywhere. Any answers? Thanks guys

I had that happen just once on my steam deck. I checked for updates in Desktop mode, ran those. Did a full shutdown, then restarted, and that fixed the issue for me.
