Voice chat not connecting

I'm trying to vc via a steam group chat but when i try to join a voice chat im stuck on "Connecting..." this has never happened to me. What do i do???

Same issue here. My brother and I have been using steam voice chat for years without issue, and just in the last few days it has stopped working. We try to call each other, after ringing for a second it automatically ends, and the receiving person never even sees the call come through at all. We've followed the troubleshooting listed on the steam support page, and did the classic restart on the PC and on Steam. Steam support sent me the link to the support page I already found on my own, and then suggested it might be a local issue on my end. Having seen this thread, I'm calling BS, it's gotta be some kind of steam server issue or something. Would love to know if it gets resolved, or if anyone finds a solution.

First they would need to acknowledge it's a problem. I submitted a ticket and they just sent me their generic voice chat troubleshooting and then said to get local computer support for my PC. I asked if there was a known issue and they said no. So obviously they don't pay attention to these threads.

The only think I can think is for everyone to make sure you actually submit a help ticket so they have documentation that it's a widespread issue. To submit a ticket, go to:

From there you can type in the issue and submit.

It is strange that the support service gave a template unnecessary advice (did not help) and sent it here...

Same, had the issue for the last 3 days (27.01.2022).

Checked my router which looks like its using the right ports, Did try with firewall down with zero difference. Used our headsets in other programs (skype and battlenet) with a issue so the core problem seems to be with just steam voice chat.

I did put something in steam support which only linked to the page about router posts, firewall and equipment check. 2nd it listed this page.

Exactly the same happens to me. I'm having trouble using voice chat with a friend. But with the rest of my friends list it works. It's been 2 days since it happened to me. We have tried to activate the beta of the Steam client but without results. Apart from trying to log out and other tests.

On the part of the support only the link of the common problems and the link to this thread.

I think it's not a problem for us users, the problem has to be on the server.

So, I tried some things myself and the one thing that fixed the issue on my computer is this:

I opened the steam chat window and clicked the voice chat request button (right hand side on the bottom, the mic icon), then, for a brief moment, three buttons appear: a headset icon, a mic icon and an exit icon, all green. I clicked the exit button (translated from Dutch it says: leave the voice chat channel) and after that I could connect with my girlfriend's computer.

Btw, my girlfriend had the same issue so she did exactly as I described above (she did that several times) and the problem on her computer was fixed too.

I really hope it works for you guys as well.

Great solution, it works. Try to connect a friend via Voice Chat and end it at the time of the first ring. With the upper left button. You must only be quick. And you will see, the next connection works. I dont understand what happens, but after this the Problem is fixed.

I opened a ticket and got the normal reply the first time to try router settings, firewall etc.. I sent a reply to them hinting it was steams end due to the growing number of comments here and this was my reply:

Thanks for taking the time to report this. Unfortunately that particular feature of Steam is experiencing issues at this time. The developers are aware and are investigating it.

Steam Support doesn't have an ETA on when it'll be fixed but as a workaround, if you create a group chat and use the voice chat from there it should work.

It worked, start call and end call. You and your friend have to do it. but it really works.

me and my friend have got the same issue, even after restarting steam, the problem still persists. i hope they do fix this issue soon.
