Steam Game Recording can't create clips or export

Hey,

As the title says I can't save clips. The background recordings are there. I can watch 2 hours of me playing something. When I try to make a clip and save it to Steam, nothing. When I try to export the save window pops up and I hit save and nothing.

I have no idea why. Anyone else have this issue and has managed to fix it?

Having this issue now (again). This time, I have a 10-minute clip and couldn't export it. So I clip it and was able to export the second 5 minutes, but every time I try to export the first 5 minutes, I get the error message. I even tried clipping and saving the first five minutes, but then when I try to export it, I get the same "Failed to Export. Try again (2)" message again.

I'm also getting "Failed to Export. Try again (2)". I was able to export fine yesterday (I'm exporting the full video) and the only change I made was modifying the directory back to what it used to be automatically.

And just like that today I am able to export and make clips. I don't know what caused this or what fixed it. I did change the folder from an external hub hard drive to a slightly faster external hard drive. No idea if that was the issue or Steam needed a few more restarts. So I recommend just restarting and posting here if you shared the same issue and what you did to fix it.

I had the exact same inssue. After finding this thread, I simply restarted my PC and this seemed to fixe this issue

having something similar, i can export things from my background recording fine but when i hit my bind to save the last couple minutes it just doesn't save anything. i've got my background recording on 5 minutes cause my pc's ♥♥♥♥ so it sucks that if i can't immediately go in and export a clip it's just gone

I'm getting this bug now that if you change the settings to 720p to export, the settings above say 1080p and 60 FPS even if you set it to 30 FPS. It then just gives an error.

Unable to retreive clip information (2) when i try to export a clip of a cs2 recording, but i can send it to a steam friend.
When i record a video of dayZ, i only get a little blackscreen file with 0:00 duration...

Im in stable-branch btw..

Also forgot to mention that the only fix is to completely restart Steam. Otherwise it will not export anything no matter what you do.

the only way I can save clips is by using the clipboard or by share link, which generates an mp4 file in the %temp%\steam folder

Ok thats the first time it seems to render something but i cant find the file anywhere sadly. Not in the temp folder also.

idk about you but for me its on C:\Users\(Username)\AppData\Local\Temp\steam

Thank you, but i dont have this folder structure on my system. I have to wait until they fixed it.

alot of yas seem to be having problems, mine is mainly that exporting different clips is just exporting the same clip over and over, even though im selecting and watching different ones

I think we might have to wait for a future update. The export function seems broken somehow. If you try to export 30 FPS and 720p it defaults to a higher resolution and then continues to fail any export until you reboot Steam.

This feature is 100% broken for me, I can't edit, delete or export any clips lol
