I can't stand the new layout.
I gave it a long honest try. I really did. But between the new enormous settings menus that goes off of the screen, Notifications no longer being organized or properly showing which I have read already, and these random mystery symbols that are supposed to somehow be easier to understand then a box that just says VR, and the fullscreen icon for Big Picture, not to mention a ton of settings being moved around,

I just had to opt out of Beta. I can't stand it anymore. There are things Steam could actually improve on. Everyone knows the Workshop could use a overhaul. But instead, we are trying to fix things that aren't broken.

The whole new layout's style just screams "Mobile App" And a messy one at that. Like the new Big Picture, but that at least makes sense even if I can't stand that new mess of layout either.

I am so tired of this mobile like design trend... If I am on a phone, design the layout to be friendly to a phone of course. But please... please understand. My PC is not some sideways touch screen with no buttons. It is, well, A PC!

Steam has always been about convenience but Big Picture became such a mess to use that what I used to use regularly I haven't even touched since the update. I'm aware that I'm in the minority on even using Big Picture in the first place, but as an example of these pointless changes, I quit Big Picture forever because it became too inconvenient to use.

Pointless broken features, obnoxious sounds, ugly layout, messy settings, and editing controllers being a pain in the butt due to the weird layout or certain ones dropping connection for no reason while specifically using Big Picture mode.

I am just worried that these pointless redesigns are just the beginning and that more and more of these changes piling on over the coming updates will make Steam it's self inconvenient to use. I know the new notifications already are.

Just a concern speaking from a place of experience. I don't want to be annoyed trying to use basic features of Steam because it just makes me not want to interact with it to begin with.

There are new settings in both cases I really really like but there just has to be a cleaner way to implement them. Right?

I can't even click things in dropdowns in the new UI. Not only that, but it's taking up more screen space which is not something you'd want, especially for people using Small Mode. Small Mode exists to be small, but now it's wider than it should be and contains elements that are unnecessary.

I can't add screenshots here but had to put some down in a report to Steam Support because the client became unresponsive to me when it auto-toggled to large mode for some nonsense and I had to revert it to Small Mode again.

This UI should not be rolled out to stable. Old UI is better on almost every point.

Hi guys, just remind it's a Beta version of Steam. Improvement will be done. If you don't like to have some bugs at update launch, maybe you should indeed go to the Stable version.

i actually like that they unifiyng the layout across pc steam deck and possibly vr, and i like that everything is a little bigger because a lot of people dont use 21inch monitors anymore, you know?

Hum, I do not agree, what about Laptop users ? It's from 15 to 17' max.

resolution lower than 1080p on steam is less than 5%. you can check at the hardware survey.
thanks god that they started to develop thinking as 1080p as the lower resolution and not everyone suffer for all being tiny because 2 or 3 guys have a ♥♥♥♥ monitor.

Totally agree. Just love the new interface and overlay features. It's been about time.

Reporting on bugs is how bugs get removed from beta before the updates hit stable. This is how the process works. Are you unfamiliar with that process? Reporting on bugs gets them sorted eventually, not reporting on bugs keeps them in the software.

Chill, I was pointing sentence where you didn't like the design, which is not a bug, sorry about the misunderstanding.

This update is obviously bugged, but this is a major update for the UI, so let's see where it goes when they'll read the feedback (most of the bugs looks just like missing parts and not like "features not implemented" or "unforseen"). And I've also reported the problems I noticed. I am aware of the process.

Pardon me for the kneejerk. I should stay off the bird site. The vitriol there is bleeding into my other conversations. Unsubbing to this discussion now.
Maybe I am misunderstanding the resolution argument but on both my tiny 800p laptop screen and my 55" 2160p PC monitor, the new UI is too big and goes off the bottom of the screen.

Readability was never a issue on either device for me and my eyesight is terrible.

my only issue with the new ui are some elements being big. otherwise this update is really clean and i can def notice optimization across the entire client
