RAM Optimization
From a visual standpoint, it's great to see a UI redesign that finally ditches the old VGUI framework. But running the entire thing on Chromium has its own set of problems, one of which being RAM usage. It's kind of a pain that Steam occupies around 500MB of ram, sitting in my system tray doing absolutely nothing. Pages should definitely be offloaded when not on screen to save resources, because some people are on a budget and don't have 32gigs of RAM in their computers. Seeing Epic Games and Ubisoft have better memory management than Steam isn't so great.

i just tried to download Doom Eternal in the steam beta and the RAM usage went up so quickly it just crashed steam.

It was a bit hard to log in again AND immediately pause the download to not crash it again only for to change back to old steam.

(BTW: My PC has this problem if there is an insane amount of RAM usage it just crashes... im workin on it, but idk what component should i replace)

Valve have been using CEF for years. Out of curiosity, why worry about RAM usage now and not a year ago? Why didn't you worry about RAM usage 5 years ago? Why only now?

Steam always occupied from 500 to 800 MB or RAM. Wake up people. I do not say, that it is good, but this is not something new. From first beta, right now (beta 3), RAM usage is smaller on my system around 25-35% and this is good direction. Additionally this is first time, when Steam manage processes (or allows the system to do so) and know how switch between background process and currently running on first plan. And this is amazing to save resources. Big, big changes under hood.

For me the RAM usage doubled from 250MB to 500MB.

The new beta client hits 1GB RAM pretty fast and goes to 1.5GB RAM with some browsing in just a few mins. Never saw the client wasting that much memory before.

The new Beta client is god awful.

CEF was used to display webpages. The client itself was C++ and Vgui. Now i suppose everything is html/javascript/css,

I think a lot of it also has to do with how slow and well, buggy the beta is rn. When a program is slowing down and freezing, the first thing to do is look at how much memory it's using.

Just a guess, but take a look at how your system uses swap space. ...If that's a thing for windows, idk.

Good luck.
