Beta UI - any Wayland plans?
I was hoping with the new bits being tested... that we would finally have Wayland support on Linux - but alas, we don't!

Are there any plans for this? The performance is notably better, but avoiding XWayland would help as well

I wanted to note that this update did fix a longstanding problem - if all open windows weren't visible, the ones that were would update/redraw incredibly slowly.

I'd see this problem on both i3 and Sway tiling window managers on the older UI. That's all good now with the beta!

Agreed, Wayland support would be much appreciated.

Noting a quirk: many keys don't appear to be read correctly on Wayland (or perhaps just Sway/wlroots?) when assigning binds for the overlay and probably elsewhere

For example: scroll lock, page up/down, and tilde all either report None or some other 'normal' character

I've confirmed the appropriate keys are recognized through 'wev'

Native Wayland support would be awesome. As they upgrade the CEF in multiple steps, that should be possible by the end of the year. It would be nice, if they could update the CEF for Linux earlier.. but they seem to be busy enough.

Yes, x is slowly dying and everything new should be made wayland first imo
My desktop is pretty busy at the moment, as I have 10 different programs - not windows - running. Out of curiosity, I checked... the only one that uses XWayland is Steam.

On one hand, I was pleasantly surprised.... on the other hand, it's kind of sad.

Valve is the company that single-handedly opened up Linux to a whole new audience - and maintains a wayland compositor, which I have proudly supplied some patches for -, but still don't support wayland on their cash cow. Kind of schizophrenic.
