Music player in overlay cant play user MP3s anymore in new UI update

Music player in overlay cant play user MP3s anymore in new UI update

noticed something with the new UI update. the music player in the steam overlay has been downgraded.
its been renamed to "soundtrack player" and can only play soundtracks in your steam library. for those that don't know, you were able to previously specify a path on your PC to the player and play any music file you wanted. as far as i can see this option has been removed as i cant find a way to enable it again.

if i'm missing something, please tell me because I would like to be wrong on this

nope they totally nerf'd it.. for not good reason. even large amount of game ost's that were packed in with the games can't be accessed because theya re mp3's in the game downloads and the new setup can't see them

Oh thats too bad :-( otherwise the overlay is awesome.

Edit: I guess we can upload to our own youtube account and listen to music from there.

I often use yt in the steam browser(a chromium applet afaik), but because of how google treats insecure platforms (e.g. chromium applets), you cannot login. Meaning you are guaranteed to get ads, even if you have the paid yt account. In addition to no way to add adblock/extensions of anysort.
Despite those flaws, I continue to use yt to play music, but its really no matchup for the old music player in terms of versatility.
Hoping that this only temporary and they bring the functionality back, too many downsides to using the browser when the music player was purpose built and good-enough (despite its weird back-end using sqlite to index your music and maintain playlists...)

First they removed both the browser and music player in big picture mode and now they removed the music player 😔

some code monkey doesn't like mp3's and wants to force us to use spotify.. because we can't own music anymore

NAHHH FR. Hopefully we'll be heard because this is just very inconvenient. It shouldnt be hard to even code it to where it displays mp3 files of any type, downloaded or from albums.
