New UI Overlay and Screenshots Needs to Correctly Support HDR formats

Was a bit disappointed to see that the overlay still doesn't support HDR in enabled games.
If you run the game with HDR, depending on the format, the overlay will appear dark with extreme over-saturation of colours, or will appear very pale and washed out. For example, in the former case, you can't use the web browser properly because the white of google search will be far too bright. As Steam moves forward with UI updates, HDR enabled games really should be included in compatibility with the overlay.

Equally, screenshot functionality needs to support HDR and/or appropriately tone map to normal colours for easier capture and sharing of HDR screenshots with the wider Steam community. Currently any captures in HDR compatible games are washed out and unusable.

Correcting these issues would be a massive improvement I've been hoping for as HDR becomes more prevalent!

Commenting to show my support for this, the Steam Overlay is still not fantastic when playing HDR games (of which there are an ever increasing number).

Commenting to make sure this doesn't get buried, I'd love for this to be the chance for these two items to be fixed in some way, I'll even take tone-mapped jpgs for screenshots, they don't have to be hdr format!

And I believe even by this outdated Chromium 85 HDR was already supported? Though the Overlay is likely still built on legacy code and still requires a RGB8 surface to render?

When using HDR its like you opt out of everything which is stupid.

The overlay is not as bad as it was, it now looks faded instead of extremely oversaturated, but it would be nice for it to work properly.

For me it's still faded when playing games in PQ format and oversaturated in SCRGB format.

That is something that will vary per game as not every game does HDR the same way it still does not support it.

Even Windows 11 Auto HDR breaks Snipping Tool. Doesn't seem to break Steam screenshots likely because it captures the framebuffer before it is manipulated.
