I don't know what in the world is going on, but gyro keeps breaking with these Beta updates. Then it will get fixed and something else will break.
Why has this been happening so frequently recently?
Hi
Bluetooth mode?
As in "I'm connecting my controller via bluetooth to my PC and not via cable"?
If so then yes. I've never heard of the specific term "bluetooth mode".
Controller: Switch Pro Controller
(not a third party one - the definitive, official one)
Will do some testing to see whether my DualShock4 is affected as well.
Side info: I'm using RE4 Remake for most of the testing
DualSense. Happens connected via bluetooth in Beta.
Edit: I think it was the May 23rd update that fixed it last time.
Thanks to your help, I was able to reproduce the problem, and narrowed it down to an optimization we were making for different individual components of a controller. The side effect was that smoothing code was not being run at a fixed rate - only at the same rate as packet updates.
There should be a fix in the next update.
thanks a ton <3
have a nice day, stay hydrated
July 15th back to having some choppiness over Bluetooth compared to wired. Using DualSense.
Note: I am testing Satisfactory and that received a big update from Unreal Engine 4 to 5. So I'm not sure if that is playing into things. But I do get smoother mouse movement when wired.
But it works fine with cable connection.
I have try many tweaks in the last 3 months. But nothing worket. :/
I tried multiple combinations of smoothness and sensitivity until I realized it is steam input causing jitter when using gyro over bluetooth as when configuring and using Joyshockmapper there is no problem.
Temporary fix after some hours: using JSM only for gyro mapping and steam for the rest of the mappings(JSM is a bit tedious to config) yet I can still find problems in some games with this workaround.
・ The Issue: The DualShock4 and the DualSense controllers use 250hz polling rate by default and Steam unfortunately doesn't let you increase it.
Gyro is basically a mouse so this makes sense. Low polling rate results in infrequent updates which in turn causes choppy camera movement. One clue to figuring this was how fps wasn't dropping even though the game was looking choppy/laggy. Or how the issue didn't occur when switching to a mouse or when connecting via a cable.
・ Short Term Solution: Apps like DS4Windows and JoyShockMapper let you increase the polling rate up to 1000hz and this fixes the issue. Use two apps together, Steam for regular inputs and JoyShockMapper for gyro. JSM also has more options for tweaking gyro.
・ Long Term Solution: Valve, please let us change the polling rate :)
