I have the habit of uploading screenshots to my friends feed, to make my friends circle aware of some indie games, so this is causing screenshots to pile up in my Steam folder.
And, if you try to "fix" this problem manually by clicking on the button to open the screenshots folder where these files are stored, you can see the "offline" screenshots that are stored in the SSD, but deleting them manually then causes another problem: when you click on that game in the library section, the activity section (which shows achievements unlocked, screenshots uploaded, friends activity, ...) then starts showing all those screenshots as "error icons", as if they failed to load.
Hopefully Valve will fix this.
EDIT: I should mention this happens in the current "release" version of the client (not the beta), since I'm using the latest "final" version of the Steam client.
Same here. Just to clarify, I'm not using the beta version. I just made the post here because Steam Support advised me to do so. According to them, the the Valve development team reviews this forum.
And to add on to the above issues steam seems to treat most local screenshots now as it being on the cloud when they clearly were never uploaded before. I tried to delete a batch of 50 local screenshots and more than half of them went through the new cloud delete process which takes far longer for something that was instant before. Not to mention it's telling me cloud space they were taking up when they were never on the cloud to begin with. So it seems even local screenshots are taking up cloud space. This could be just a visual bug but it's still causing longer delete times.
This results in the most recent screenshots appearing last in our feeds.
ALSO. One more thing not mentioned here.
For whatever reason the default upload option for all screenshots is set as "Private". You have to manualy switch every single shot to Public or Friends Only before uploading.
This also needs to be fixed OR give global option for default behavior in the settings.
Although they're certainly slowly fixing the manager to not be as bad, yesterday they made it (according to patch note, haven't tested it) so that the privacy selection remembers the last option you chose so it will not longer default to private.
To be honest I think the only issues I have with the current screenshot manager (as far as I can remember) is not being able to delete screenshots (both locally and on cloud at same time) from the manager itself and when selecting multiple screenshots the manager for whatever reason deciding to upload newest to oldest instead of oldest to newest, and it also decides to make the screenshots jump from their location in the list to right at the top when uploading which is annoying to me.
I think once those things are fixed it'll certainly be a lot better, can't currently think of anything else specific to the screenshot manager that needs fixing but it'd be great for those things to be changed indeed.
It would have been better if Valve fixed the issue, but the workaround is better than nothing.
