Steam Beta LAN Transfer doesn‘t work from Deck to PC
[SOLVED - You can't transfer from Deck to PC at this time]

Hello fellow gamers!

Has anybody tried to download a game from deck to pc yet?
I have my deck and my laptop on the same network, I can even stream games so they definitely see each other.

I tried to transfer atomic heart from my deck to my laptop, but even after verifying the game files on the deck, as another post suggested, the laptop would just use the normal steam download servers.

I then tried it the other way around and started the download of post void, wich was installed on my laptop, on the deck and it instantly showed that it was transferring from my laptop.

Then I uninstalled post void from the laptop to see if that game will work transferring from deck to laptop, but nope, it didn’t.

Has anyone else managed to transfer a game from the deck to PC?

That's not LAN.

look in text file "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\logs\content_log.txt" on the PC for keyword "peer", that might give a clue why the transfer didn't work.

From Deck to PC isn't supported (yet?)

Only a PC running in Steam desktop mode can send files. So Steam Decks, PCs in Big Picture mode, and custom launchers can currently not transfer files out over the local network.

Ahhh now I understand my mistake here. I read this like "you can not tranfer from steam deck in big picture / gaming mode" but I thought it should work in desktop mode - but you're right it says it doesnt work from Deck to PC sadly.

Thanks for your helpful reply!

I'm getting these logs on the Peer, haven't checked the deck yet (server).

Denied peer content server request from [U:1:42210915] for AppID 1304930 (Content Version

The game I'm testing is Outlast Trials. I'm not sure how steam handles multi-platform games, if it isn't a different download altogether, I would suspect it should work. However, that is not the case here, this is a windows only game.

Anyone else able to confirm, using the steam deck as a server to transfer locally to a windows machine even works?

I should also note, based on the resolution in a steam discussion for issues the other way around, the pc as the server, a verification of the local files, on the deck, didn't seem to make a difference. I have not tried uninstalling on the PC to attempt installing it fresh yet.
