"Reconnecting" or "connecting" when attempting to join group chat or private chat
Im being told by steam support to post this in a new discussion thread seems a bit redundant since there are several other threads that indicate this being an issue. So heres the breakdown

2 days ago logged into the steam client and attempted to join a group chat created with my friends. When attempting to join the voice channel it displays under my name "reconnecting" and does not go away. Unable to hear anyone in the group chat or be heard by them. We tested private chats with just one person and shows "connecting" when attempting to join the private chat.

Followed the appropriate steps in attempting to resolve the issue via the support doc it gives when clicking on "reconnecting." (Just for reference: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2598-RTZB-6114).

Once completing all these steps multiple times I then decided to try an alternate log in (friend log in) to see if continued to happen. To my surprise (logging into the steam client and on the exact same computer) the alternate account work perfectly fine - no issues joining group chats or private chats. I made this very clear in the ticket provided to steam support and was told that I need to do the same steps again and that it sounds like is a PC issue. Oh also forgot to mention that I completely uninstalled Steam and reinstalled.

Im not a computer engineer or have any super extensive knowledge on programming but am I crazy to think that if it works fine with one log in but not the other on the same PC this would be Steam/profile issue and not a PC issue?

Previous threads and discussions with individuals having the same issue are referencing this error code from their chat logs: (WebRTC) Got failure (2) response from InitiateWebRTCConnection - which is the same message I'm seeing in my logs then repeats the same steps

I have exactly the same problem. It's not about the hardware, since everything works from another account on the same computer, as far as I understand the problem is massive. Everything happened after updating the Steam client

Same here! it works in Discord, Skype and everywhere... except Steam Chat where is stuck at Reconecting message... from one day to the other , no changes .:badchicken:

Same by me .... but i tried it on 2 PCs with the same Account ... its realy strange

i tried with a difffretn accout on same pc and it works on the other account this issue is definitly steam based

this is so annoying I also sent a message to steam support i hope they don't answer me like this

Hi guys, got the same issue for 2 days now. Interesting to see that there's other people with the same experience and still it seems like Steam tries to avoid the situation. Support also told me to post here or "ask a local PC specialist" for help...great advice, thanks!

All other software (TS, Discord) works properly and when logging into my steam account on other PCs (where there's no problem with friends' accounts) I got the same problem. Therefore it is obvious that it is bound to my steam account.

It seems to be funny that steam support is amazing at providing a very canned response to everyone’s complaint and missing what was specifically said in the messages. Is team support a bot?

You would think if it wasn’t they would have seen the details on using the exact same pc, headset, and steam client that one profile works and the other doesn’t.

Maybe some customer service tips for them would be reading the complaint and fully understanding the issue before giving the canned response. I understand there are lots of things out of their control and saying ya we are aware there is some bug/issues happening with it and working towards the resolution would prevent a majority of individuals frustrations

Same issue for me.. not my setup as headset and mic works in everything but steam chat
