Why do y'all post annoying comments like this? People are gaming on their Mac and are looking for support. Your smug comment is not helpful.
Comeon STEAM. This is a know problem for over a year now.
Because it's common sense; it's like buying a Switch and expecting games to be in 4K with DLSS and RT along with lag free online PvP. Or buying a Chromebook and expecting to download programs outside of Google Play. Macs are not designed nor optimised for gaming like iOS, and Apple has made it clear through their actions that they don't care about it. Mac excels in content creation and easy accessibility, much like how Linux excels in modification and servers.
The newer ARM MacBooks with stronger processors still aren't ideal for gaming; integrated chipsets, slow SRAM, and generic display drivers/APis will never be on par with dedicated cards, fast VRAM, and optimised game ready drivers/APis. Even console gamers understand there's more to just raw computing performance to make a game run good when ported to their preferred system. It's not a coincidence that Xbox loses profit while Nintendo and Sony have consistently gained profit.
And yes, I know that some MacBooks have GPUs, but they're limited in stock (and marketing lol) and are extremely overpriced to the extent that it's not worth buying even for Apple standards. Using desktop GPUs externally seems like a good idea except it defeats the purpose of having a laptop, and they tend to be bottlenecked by the eGPU adapter. Besides, Linux itself is an offshoot of Unix much like Mac and is free, it's not completely alien and with a price tag like Windows. I wonder if Epic Games won their Fortnite lawsuit...
It's unbelievable powerfull and with the m2 coming it will beat most windows laptops or computers. Once everyone understands this it's a matter of time till mac goes all in on gaming.
I did check M1 Pro and Max, and I do admit I'm blown away by how Apple managed to make a iGP nearly rivaling a mobile RTX 3070 (desktop equivalent is 3060). But the PS5 and Xbox Series X have better APUs still so whatever. I'm also impressed by the claimed bandwith of 200GB/S which is far faster than any SRAM bandwith so far. However, it still pales in comparison to HBM2 and GDDR6 (maybe even GDDR5X too), let alone GDDR6X and GDDR6 with Infinity Cache.
Oh yeah, Intel seems to be making a comeback with 12th Gen seeing how benchmarks indicate the i9 12900KF is considerably faster than the R9 5950X. And AMD has already promised before they're just gonna go even further beyond and not look back with future RYZEN chips.
I know from my comments it might seem like I hate Apple in regards to M1, but I'm actually rooting for them because I absolutely hate Intel from the bottom of my heart. And it will encourage competition which is beneficial to the industry as a whole. Let's be honest here, these companies just want our money, they don't care about us beyond our wallets.
