I still want the damn useless categories GONE, what do we have to do to get it done?
I've read (just the title, none replied back to this user) that another user was banned because he/she disagreed on the new beta changes, right, "BETA" they skipped the part when we were asked about using it /sarcarsm.
I didn't signed for this. I don't like it, it's ugly and takes a lot of space. It's also useless, as it shows games I don't even own. Why do I care if 2 or more friends are playing Rocket League? or No Man's Sky? I cant effin join!!
Like slothicus (nice nickname btw) said, that command / workaround wont work forever. We need, nay we demand the real deal, a serious config option.
Is there another way to press them? a pettition to sign? oh I know! YT streamers can but they won't, imagine if their sponsors got mad..
Sigh...
Plus, copying to discord.. c'mon, talking about being original... pfff
Granted, I may be ok with the chat changes, embedded img (there's an option to disable it anyways). I could even forgive the hideous color and no custom options, but the UI size and forced crap has to go.
Discord has taken over the comms game. Their features are seen as normal and if Valve doesn't compete then they lose out to Discord. Valve's goal here shouldn't be originality it should be making sure every customer is satisfied with the new chat.
I wonder, was there a user base requesting this beta crap we got? I never saw a poll or question form asking about what sort of changes we would like.
Oh almost forgot! The group event pop up! you know, those who take you out of full screen gaming or any other program, blinking HEY IM HERE! GIVE ME YOUR FULL ATTENTION!
So people said "well just leave the offending groups then" yeah, it's the same thing now with this game categories, remove friends or don't connect at all!
It's like they're asking us to leave, to stop using Steam. Oh, let's just forget the money and time we spent on our rights to play a game, you don't own games, you're licensed to play theirs.
Sorry, getting sidetracked.
Discord isn't to blame here. Steam should compromise and allow everyone chose what to disable or enable is that tickles someone fancy
Apparently Valve doesn't read steamcommunity though. Go to reddit to complain!
@sideshow:
If you haven't figured it out already, right-click on the steam-icon and go to preferences / properties (my windows is German: "Eigenschaften" at the bottom).
Then you have to add -nofriendsui as stated above.

Please, make EVERY feature optional?
Would say make 7 day waiting period on trading optional too since it's actually pointless (if someone can bypass sms protection they have my phone anyways so mobile authenticator is essentially useless...). As in why does Valve like pushing questionable stuff on their users? Especially when They don't gain anything from it... or do they? Maybe I'm just naive and this is a chat-conspiracy!
