really weird odd steam profile picture glitch, bug, or ?

so i was going to change my profile picture to a all black photograph.

i googled black or color black or something and i saved this file right?

let me see here....

the file itself is named index and it is a .png file. it was a all black picture on the site i saved it from. i open it in paint and it is nothing but a simple like 200x200 all black photo.

this is how it originated from whatever website i downloaded it from.





anyhow. getting to the point here,


i uploaded it to my steam profile and instead of the all black picture it shows a close up of a bust of a women and across her shirt it says "send nudes"

ive never encountered this before.

is this some type of new photo encryption or something?

its really odd because in some places on steam it actually looks as if it is the all black photograph i wanted, on my desktop and in windows it even shows it as if it is a all black photograph, but i had no idea it really is this other picture that says send nudes until i uploaded it on here.


is this some type of error or glitch on steam?


anyone have any ideas?

I downloaded the same image you did in your video.

I get send nudes.

I download a different image or make my own in paint, I get all black.

I'm guessing someone trolled that wiki page and uploaded that image with a black layer over top of it and the steam client is removing the black layer leaving the image.

no. it does it with several different all black images from google and other places. im not sure what the criteria is for it to do that, but i want to say that all of them that did it for me were .PNG and not .jpg images.

What other ones did you try? I tried 5 different ones inlcuding the one I made in paint and the one you specifically showed in your video is the only one that did it.

I swear it worked with other pictures but you guys might still be right. im not sure.

i did not make that picture however i swear to you that. and i still think it is highly highly odd.

if it isnt' a bug or a glitch (which im not so sure it is now,) how?


i looked at the original picture i still have that does this its a .png file,


anyhow i made a picture a .png with the same exact dimensions and it didnt work...



maybe its the color we are using in basic paint? im not sure.

the easy way to test is open paint create a new 200 x 200 px image, paint bucket black and save as a png then upload to steam.

I am pretty sure its a clever use of transparency. It's the one big difference with PNG format is that you can use transparency. You can also select colors that will be transparent. It's very possible that different apps have issues with that and some are not displaying things correctly. The author of the PNG exploited that weakness. Very clever!

APNG can do this very cleverly and is png viewer compatible though it shows the first frame/page to the viewer hiding the rest of the images. steam client supports this format and a few game store pages have used this format for high quailty animated images. battletech from paradox is a good example. though if somone could pull off a good apng for an avatar it could be ground breaking unless it loads the last frame as a precaution to prevent abuse of apng's

okay actually i just confirmed that the developers of steam are messing with people, here is that proof if you dont believe me i made a second video just now just for this forum showing step by step on how to make an image that does what my current one is all glitched and bugged. im sure you can change it up and the results may be the same.

that confirms steam client image converter is a troll. it converts apngs and other image formats it supports to jpg and has special coding for solid color images
