Friend status not showing in chat window

What's going on valve? You let the intern running wild or Epic spies messing things up? This is ridaculous and not a good end to 2019. I need to see if people are online/away, I am busy guy with important things to discuss. Fix it!!!!

Yes, Valve updated this upper bar on Steam chat, when you message with friends and now it's looks worse I think :( Avatars are too small and you can't see now status of your friend like online, away or offline. Please, make this new changes optional like compact mode and let us choose from small or normal avatars.

My friends names are all cut off and tabbed... even though I don't USE tabs.. all that wasted space. God forbid they just displayed the entire thing.

And furthermore, now I have to wonder if my friends are away or online, or even what game they're playing / where they are in the game like it was, and open up the friend list to check...

What an ass backwards "update"... whoever's designing this should be ashamed because every update just removes more and more of the features until its whittled down to something a caveman made.
