You are absolutely right and i know this option. But i would like to be invisible at every start and then decide after the start if i can be seen. Just like I can, if I don't use the beta.
Pls bring back the option Steam → Settings → Friends tab → Uncheck "Automatically sign into Friends when I start Steam" (maybe i'm blind, but i can't find this option anymore)
I'm really
The re-added the ability to not sign in by default. Other than that, it remembers your last status when you start Steam. If you go invisible before you close Steam, you will be invisible the next time you start.
The "offline by default" option has been back for some time now, you can find it if you click the gear icon in the top right of your friends list to get the friends list settings. Then FRIENDS LIST > Sign in to friends when Steam Client starts" to off. This keeps you offline reliably unless you manually set yourself to online.
I'm not seeing this option - there is no gear icon or anything else intractable other than to Sign into Friends and Chat. Is it really because I'm signed out of Friends? Do I really have to sign into friends to find the option to keep me offline?
So I just tested it and sadly what I've just implied above is true.
You can go from offline to invisible by right clicking the tray icon and selecting invisible, or from the client, click friends and select invisible.
