"Mark as read"
Is there any way to mark unread chat messages read, because when I open the chat the green mail icon wont go away and it bothers me

There's the "Mark all as read" option, also try to unsubcribe from any discussions you don't want to be notified about anymore.

That's the point. I don't mean comments I mean "Unread chat messages"

Hmm then I'm not sure, you could try turning off notifications but I don't think that's gonna help.

same issue, i want the overlay reverted so i can kill the green notification. ♥♥♥♥ this sloppy encoding.

The problem actually does exist. when someone in your friends list sends you a msg thru chat and then you remove that person before opening their chat msg, you won't be able to take away that green notification for it unless you add them again, read their msg and then remove them.

When you read the message, you have to restart Steam (properly; go to the Steam icon in the bottom right corner and click Exit), then open Steam and the icon should be gone.
This has worked for me but I'm not sure about anyone else so just try it.
