Voice not outputting to communications device.
Hello,

I faced an issue with the new client because it doesn't output voice to the (default communications device) of windows, instead it goes to the normal device, this is a problem for me as I have a headset which can control the communications device and the normal one seperatly (arctis 5), the old steam client supported this feature where the voice from chats would go through the communications line, now however it is different.

i hope you understand.

I have the same issue. I set my headset as Default Communications Device in Windows so voice chat should come through the headset earphone, but it is instead coming through my PC speakers. I like to hear voice through the headset and all other sounds through my surround speakers.

I suggest adding a voice setting to select the desired voice output device.

They need to add an output option in the settings tab. Not all of us run everything through our headphones. So its annoying to suddenly hear your friends through your surround sound and have no way to fix it lol

I have this issue to. Voice properly outputs to the default communication device in the old client but not in the beta client.

I'm having the same issue. Hope this gets resolved.

Yup. If Valves intention was to make Steam comparable or better than Discord then they failed. Botching this simple feature is what ultimatly dove me to switch to Discord.

I found a way to fix it, go to windows sound settings then click on App volume and device prefrences, and for the chat window make the output throught ur preferred device.

1. Right click volume (on windows10)
2. Open sound settings
3. App volume and device prefrences
4. pick ur preferred thing

Not really a fix (Steam should use the default communication device like it did before) but a good workaround. I didn't know that Windows 10 could assign audio devices on per app basis. Thanks for the info.

At the time OP posted we didn't have the ability to choose the output device in our settings. We do now though, so @ClawHammer3, you can just click the gear icon in the top right of the friends list, then in the Voice section choose your playback device. I think that is what you are looking for?

That's what I was looking for. Thanks.
