I'm trying to set the icon for a non-steam game (a .sh script that runs Firefox in game mode, see here https://github.com/cheater/firefox-steam-deck-game-mode ). All other artwork works, but the icon remains blank in the steam desktop client on the deck. All other artwork can be set. If I create a desktop icon, the icon shows up in the desktop shortcut. The desktop shortcut properly refers to the icon (/home/deck/Firefox_logo,_2019.png). I tried re-exporting the downloaded image with gimp, making the image square, scaling the image down to 64x64, and exporting as tga, but the icon in the desktop client remains blank.
But if I set it and then reboot, sometimes (not always) it'll show up at the next boot. Sometimes I reboot to update the OS, so maybe whatever cache invalidation that does is happening that isn't happening initially when the icon is set the first time around. EG while writing this I set the icon to png, then rebooted back into game mode, and from that I went to check my OS update channel and an an update to the latest version and after boot up the icon was there.
Could y'all look into this? I'm on the latest beta channel
i'm on OS 3.6.20 but before the update mentioned above I was on 3.6.19.
ps feel free to use a script like this to add firefox to steam os game mode ... it's really good and much, much better than chrome...
When an Exe file is added, at first it shows the icon for that EXE file.
When Steam is restarted, the icon becomes blank.
Repeating the process of adding Exe file, and then dragging the Non Steam item into a Collection, the Icon becomes blank.
Restarting Steam does not fix this issue. Sometimes the EXE icon will randomly appear, but will disappear again leaving a blank placeholder.
In Settings > Library > "Show game icons in the left Column" toggle On/Off does not fix this issue either.
Windows 10, All redists, DotNet, everything is updated. No other issues related to Thumbnails or Icons on the system.
Issue is not fixed as of March 2025.
Edit : Issue started during Families Beta, and is still an issue after Beta has been finalized into main branch.
Added Battle.net-installer as Non-Steam Game(force Proton 9). Installed Starcraft 2. Set Battle.net-installer icon as Starcraft 2.png 256x256 icon from protonshortcuts/icons/256/apps/. When I set it, nothing happens, the icon stays blank.
